"How was your day?" Matt asked.
"Not as good as yesterday. I didn't have you to talk to and
check on when I needed a break."
"So no other patients got my care?" Matt teased, though
Trynt heard the slight insecurity.

Trynt held Matt a little tighter. "No, you were a very
special case."
"Is that so?" Matt asked with a smile, and Trynt nodded.
"Lucky me, then." He kissed Trynt, then gazed at him in
concern. "So, was it too bad?"
"It was relatively quiet; a few incidents with patients and
Ben was an arse earlier. We nearly got into a fight," Trynt
admitted with a heavy sigh. Secretly he was pleased that Matt
could tell when something was bothering him.
"What happened? Was it me?" Matt's voice was laced with
worry.
Trynt rested his head on Matt's shoulder. "Yes and no. He
doesn't like me, and he just wanted to get a rise out of me,
so he said some things..."
Matt caressed the small of Trynt's back. "How could
anyone not like you?" he asked in disbelief.
Trynt couldn't help but smile at Matt. "You're sweet. But
don't worry, he's just upset that because of the war, I rose up
in the hospital pretty fast and became an asset with my quick
learning skills. He has seniority and hates that it's so
effortless for me to do things."
"Well, that's hardly fair," Matt scoffed, seeming just as
irritated with Ben as Trynt was. "He can't blame you for being
brilliant."
"He can and he does."
"I'm sorry." Matt pressed a kiss to Trynt's temple.
"Don't be. He doesn't matter, and I shouldn't have let it
get to me," Trynt acknowledged.
"What did he say?" Matt pressed.

Trynt sighed, not wanting to tell Matt but not wanting to lie
either. "He said some cruel things about me being queer and
that there was no way someone like yourself could ever like
someone like me." He repeated Ben's words, dropping his
gaze. "I would just be a quick shag before you left. He was
pushing my buttons, and I reacted like he wanted, even
though I knew it wasn't true."
"What does that prat know?" Matt growled. "You could
never be just a shag." He took a calming breath and cupped
Trynt's cheek. "And Trynt, I'm pretty sure it's the other way
around. I'm not sure why you would want someone as
damaged as I am," he said, voice vulnerable and filled with
insecurity. "But last night... What you did, it meant so much
to me."
Trynt's breath caught as he saw the truth in Matt's eyes.
He felt the rest of the tension leave his body; he knew Ben
was just being cruel, but hearing Matt say that meant a great
deal. "He was wrong, I know that. He doesn't know you or
me. And he certainly doesn't know anything about us." He ran
his fingers through the hairs on the nape of Matt's neck as he
locked gazes with him. He knew he'd do anything to heal the
hurts that Matt had felt. And he also knew he was just as
broken as Matt, but he didn't feel that way in his arms. "I
don't care if you are damaged, because I am too," he
admitted. "I just want to be with you, and maybe we can take
each other's pain away."
"You already are. I've never had anyone comfort me after
a nightmare," Matt confessed. "And I haven't slept that good
in I don't know how long."

Trynt smiled, pleased he'd comforted and helped Matt rest.
"Same here."
Matt kissed Trynt, and they pulled apart only when they
heard the timer from the kitchen. "Dinner's ready, gorgeous."
Trynt blushed and followed Matt to the small table. Matt
suddenly took Trynt's hand and asked him, "Ben will he say
anything about us?"
Trynt shook his head. "No. Not long ago, I caught him
selling things on the black market. I threatened to turn him in
but didn't because we needed doctors. It's still hanging over
his head, and he knows I won't hesitate to turn him over with
the proof I kept if he crosses me."
Matt grinned in relief. "No one should ever underestimate
you," he said with pride.
"Ben did, and it's why I caught him. But enough of that. I
just want to enjoy dinner with you. Do you need some help?"
Trynt offered.
Matt gave him a sheepish look. "I wanted to make
something special for dessert, but I couldn't tackle the stairs."
They both laughed. "I think you'll like it, but it's a bit messy
in the kitchen, though I promise to clean it."
Trynt chuckled and walked over to the wine rack. "All
right, then, how about some wine?"
"Perfect."
Kimi walked in as Matt served the stew and beans on
toast. Matt pulled out a chair for her. "You're just in time,
Kimi! Have a seat, I made dinner."
Matt went to get another bowl, and Kimi walked over to
Trynt. "If you don't tell me you want him, I'm going to marry

him right now," she decided with a giggle. "He cooks, saves
my life, and is absolutely gorgeous."
Trynt laughed, thinking that he did want Matt more than
he'd ever wanted anyone. "Sorry, Kimi, you had your
chance," he told her with a wink, but he felt almost
possessive. "He's mine now."
Kimi pretended to pout, then hugged him tightly. "I'm
happy for you. Both of you." She kissed his cheek.
Matt walked back in. "Talking about me?" he joked, but
Trynt knew he was curious to know what they were
discussing.
Trynt helped Matt serve the food. "Kimi is going to run
away with you and leave me here all alone," he said in mock
sadness.
Matt pulled him into an embrace and kissed him soundly. [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
